My entire life my parents would tell me, Jacob, you are meant to be a teacher, I still have the license of my great grandfather from the early 1900s. Although, I thought I had different plans. I graduated from Cumberland University in 2006 with my bachelor’s degree in Business Administration. From there I went to work in sales, I enjoyed the work, but it was far from my wife and my hometown. Some months later a position opened in my hometown, I was contacted by the owner and offered a job. For the next two years, I worked in my hometown in sales. I thought it was going well until the recession of 2008 hit and my career in sales was over.
I shifted my thought process of what I would do. I went back to what my parents suggested my entire life, educating. There was an opening in World Geography at my local high school, Warren County High School in McMinnville, TN and I applied for it. It was truly meant to be. I completed the alternate licensing program through the state of Tennessee while also completing my Masters in Eduction from Cumberland University. Furthering my education with an Ed. S. from Middle Tennessee State University. Since becoming a teacher, I realize this is what my calling was all along. I have never been more passionate than I am when shaping the lives of children.
In my years of teaching, I have grown as an educator. What I did not receive with formal training I have made up substantially in teaching experience. I am always learning every day. I have switched subjects from World Geography to United States History. I am department chair of our Social Studies department. I currently am serving on the leadership team at Warren County High School. I have organized an EdCamp style PD for my school. I have extensive experience In curriculum design and leadership development. I have mentored many new teachers in my building helping them avoid the mistakes I made over my years. I am versed in educational technology with GSuite for education, Microsoft, Apple, iOS, Android platforms, Odessyware and Edgenuity.
I have experienced all children in every walk of life. It is my desire to help every child to learn at his or her pace. Seeing a child graduate is one of my favorite parts of teaching.
I am married to a Gorgeous wife, and God has blessed me with two beautiful children. I also enjoy the outdoors, and coaching my children in various sports.
